A Coloring Bible? How Does That Communicate?

Various media outlets say that Bible sales are up 36 percent year over year. If you or someone you know plans to buy a Bible this year, you have a unique choice: HarperCollins/Zondervan has just released their newest Bible, the NIV Beautiful Word Coloring Bible, in time for the Christmas shopping season.

So why am I calling this new Bible unique? It’s a coloring Bible. No, NOT a color Bible (although you can see from the photo that it has a pink leather cover). It’s a coloring Bible. It contains pages with key verses in various layouts/artsy scripting for you to “doodle” with color inside the scripted lines.

Now that should help you memorize scripture! No kidding!

That unique twist works several ways to communicate God’s word. Even a skimming reader will be drawn to those colorful, creative text designs.

Second, those specially selected verses that the publisher has chosen to highlight in this way communicate key passages that the reader may or may not be familiar with from their personal study.

And finally, as readers take the time to add color to the scripted verses, most certainly, God’s word has time to seep into their consciousness.

Congratulations to HarperCollins for finding a way to attract new readers to the bestselling book of all times.
